RAINBOW

its a story in the backdrop of recent Mumbai blast at 6:53 pm in dadar, where a person dies.this is the last page of his life.......

7:30 am
A lazy morning in Mumbai, sunlight is filtering through the curtains and on the bed, I am lazily thinking about priorities of my day. I have office at 9, meet with international clients at 11, prepare for tomorrows presentation till 4, then have meeting with boss at 6, hummff that’s it for the day!!! No, no I forgot one thing I have to go to car machanic for wheel alignment as well but before 7 pm at any cost.
Well, after getting all the days business set in my mind, I dug my face again in the pillow and fell asleep only when a screaming sound made entry over my ear drums “aaj to Bandar-Bandariya ki shaadi ho rahi hai”(today monkey couple are marrying eachother)…..it was my little kido “Saniya” whom we all call Sana.
She jumped over my belly and said,”papa, dekho na bahar kitna acha lag raha hai, barish aur dhoop sath sath”. I grazed out of window and found a drizzle amidst bright sunshine, coincidence, but a lovely one. I took Sana in my lap and told her, keep looking outside, you may find Rainbow very soon on the horizon.

Then I rushed to the bathroom for…do I need to tell you this? Anyways I am almost done with the pre-office preparation which includes my breakfast which is at the mercy of my wife, Shona as I call her.
8:45 am
Finally I am ready for office, Shona gave me a mundane hug and as usual again remineded me to keep myself away from my assistant who is naturally more pretty, fresh and energetic than my wife. But something I missed, Sana didn’t come to give me a bye kiss, I called her twice but no response. Anyways, I came down stairs, it was raining outside, I threw my bag inside the car and when I was to enter the car, I heard a lovely voice,”Papa, rainbow will come na? I have been waiting for long but its not there”.
Ohh pretty gal, she was still drolling on the window and as per my words, she was waiting for rainbow.
I said,” it will come beta, very soon it will”. “Ok, then I will wait here only,”she replied.
The last thing I saw her hands outside window trying to catch rain drops.
12:45 pm
I am done with client meeting, it all went well even boss looked happy today. I went to mess straight away to have lunch as I knew its gonna be a packed day after the lunch. I took cheese-Burger along with coke and covered a table. I don’t know why it happens with me all the time when I am about to eat my favourite cheese-burger my fone rings, so it is ringing, so be it. I kept ringing and finally I took the hard step of taking the call. Ohh, goodness, it was Shona on the other side,”where have you been Vinod? A sharp, hard voice zarred my ear drums. Look your daughter has created hell back home, talk to her. I said hello sana, how are you child? I was greeted with a weeping sound,”papa, you are a liar!! You said, rainbow will come, but it hasn’t yet. I am fed up looking at the sky. You are a liar!!
It will come beta, believe me, today is a special day, whatever papa says, it’ll happen for sure, believe me. And if it doesnot, I will bring you a choco, ok? I tried to persuade her. My little girl was happy with my bait, she said fine if Rainbow doesn’t appears then I need fruit ‘n’ nuts else bring milk cakes!!! Ok, papa now I am going again to the window, I don’t wana miss rainbow today.
05:30 pm
I am all set to present the report to the boss and went inside the cabin, the bald-head (boss) has immersed his head into the laptop screen, looked like sleeping but he was conscious I believe. Well, discussion started about the business and other future plans for expenses in the office. Suddenly he said, how is Sana? What about her quest with life. I was taken aback by sudden change in the topic, well she is fine, doing well but as far as quest is concerned, she is much more than her mom. I don’t know why am I telling boss all this but I wanted to tell about todays’ rainbow quest. I told him all about rainbow stuff happening since morning. He looked at my face and asked, do you believe rainbow will come?
I looked at the sky, it was dark with clouds, well it’s difficult indeed but hopefully we will get to see one today.
6:30 pm
I went to my cabin and called the peon, Ram lal can, ek chai Lana! But Ram lal said pantry wale ghar chale gaye sir, aap kaho to neeche se le aaun. I said, ok le aao! Acha suno, rehne do, mai khud hi jaake pee leta hoon.
I went to a tapri, as we call it in mumbai, and asked for a special cutting, Ismail a 7 year old kid handed over a glass, aur kuch laun kya sahab? I said, nahi. I looked at his face, he must be of the same age as Sana is. I was amazed, my daughter is busy in her quest with life and this little kid is busy with hardships of life.
6:50 pm
I am done with the tea, handed over money and turned back. Suddenly something came in my mind, Ismail tune kabi indradhanush dekha hai kya? Ha dekha na sahab, mast lagta hai. Acha batao kitne rang hote hai, I enquired. Ab kitna hoega sahab, char paanch to hoga hi but apan ko kya, apan to ek hi rang jaanta hai, golden brown, chai wala rang. And with this answer, he smiled innocently, and everybody there had a laugh.
I looked at the sky, it was a mixture of reddish tint of sunlight which was indication that sun is getting into the Arabian Sea now.
The red colour was there, only red….but no rainbow in the sky!!!!
06:53 pm
My ears went deaf, my eyes could hardly sea things, my body acted as if it was a log of wood……I felt the earth stopped rotating, world stood still….
I tried to gather all my energy to open my eyes, so as to see what happened, I saw Ismail on ground, bleeding from his head, half of the skull looked torn apart. Still unconscious, I wanted to yell, cry for help but my system was put on mute mode. Everything, looked so chaotic, people running around, smoke coming out of fried bodies, blood spilling out of limbs as we find with BMC pipelines.

Suddenly a huge cry came out of my mouth out of pain. My unconscious body came into wide awake. I could see a rod into my chest, blood spilling out of it. Another metal piece in my belly. What the heck is all this, I was there for tea only not for all this. Help, help, I am dying , plz help…………………
But nobody was there, a shear chaos, a no mans land. I knew, this is it………
07:30 pm
I don’t know what is happening but I could see some faces, some lights on my head. May be I am in hospital. May be, these faces are doctors, may be lights belong to operation theatre. May be I will come alive.
My eyes are dying, I could barely see anything now…………..may be I am dying!!! After everything went calm around me, it felt like freezing cold in the room.
“Papa, look, look at the horizon, it’s a rainbow there”, I tried my best to open my eyes, yes there was a rainbow, far on the horizon. “Papa you said na, it will come look it has, you are not liar, you are best papa in the world”.
I wanted to tell her,”I can see the rainbow, but its not 7 coloured but one” the RED……..
Suddenly, found a shacky activity over my chest, may be they are giving me electrical shocks to regain my breath. I could hear little murmer among the docs, many masked faces over my head. And when they left, it was a big Light above my head just like the one in operation theatre.
08:00 pm

Just like when you close your eyes in sunlight and you find different unstructured images in the sky and it ends into bright light fading in the eye.
Same way, it ended for me with only exception, I could see two little hands coming out window to catch rain drops…..and a voice………Rainbow will come na, Papa!!!

Paint it Green, remove Red........

“Long ago, there was a king called Kamunist, he was a great ruler and had a great control over his state. He was very clever and had immense administrative acumen. With his wisdom and acute knowledge of people management the King became almost invincible and ruled his state for decades”.
One fine morning a noble Brahmin came to the state and after looking at the status of people and the economy of state, he decided to go the king. When king heard about the Brahmin he gracefully invited him to his court and welcomed him to the court.
Then the king asked the brahmin,“Hey brahmin, I am grateful to you that you arrived at my door, what can I do for you? Brahmin replied, “Rajan! I heard a lot about you & your administrative acumen and therefore I came all along to see you and to see the people.
King Kammunist became happy after hearing Brahmin’s words, he further asked,”so what did you find, did you liked my administration, my courtmen, the prosperity in the estate?
Brahmin took a pause, thought and then said, “O King Kammunist, I appreciate your administrative skills and have full faith in your courtmen but when it comes to prosperity among the people, I am afraid your state takes the back seat. This is the only reason I came all the way to understand your definition of prosperity.”
King was surprised, annoyed as well. He said,”Look at my court, my castle, my capital city which is comaprable to none”. Go around and have a look at the cultural heritage I have kept intact in all these years, I have done all good things to restore and save the pride of my people.
Brahmin smiled and said,”this is what I want to tell you my King, I agree your court, castle, capital city is incomaparable, your culture and its heritage is an epic in itself but have you looked beyond the walls of your castle? Did you tried to look at the other cities apart from your capital? In the name of cultural heritage, you blocked the doors of fresh ideas, innovation, and you succeeded to inculcate a false pride among your people which is baseless atleast in modern times. Your people are happy with their past but have uncertain future. But it is time for change!!
Its not that your people love you or respect you, but they don’t have any option. They expect a lot from you but afraid of your cadres who torture them, suppress them, deprive them from justice. This is all because of your complacency. You assumed that nobody can dethrone you ever but remember one thing my dear King “Change is inevitatble, either you change or the time will change you”.
The King Kammunist realised his fault and fell on the Brahmins’ feet. He promised that he will not be myopic anymore and will try to provide justice to all the people of state. The king ordered his courtmen to go the people and work for the people. Thus, the king Kammunist regained the lost respect from the people and ruled happily for long.
Wow, a nice story for kids, a nice lecture on justice and expectations from a leader. Lets come back to the ground now, immoral, concrete ground in the scroching heat.
Lets relive the above story in the perspective. West Bengal is the state and the King Kammunist (Communists) and the Brahmin (may be Ms.Bannerjee). The story coincides ditto on the ground realities of WB but only with a slight change in the last paragraph of the story.
In the story the King Kammunist realised his fault and pledged to tighten all screws in his administration for bringing justice, egalitarian societal norms and true prosperity among its people. But in reality, the CPI(M) govt never acknowledged his faults, its mistakes, atrocities over the people and its deeds which destroyed the industries, business houses, economy of west bengal in the name of change or social reforms.
They took the mandate of people for granted and I believe this is time to make them understand that “Change is inevitable”.
Let’s pray, the fresh mandate will “Remove Red and Paint it green”.
That it will remove the outdated, anti-development red with the Green which stands for prosperity, growth and development.
I wish the King Kammunist of modern times should have heard the Brahmin but I reckon its too late and one thing is inevitable now ……………………………”Green prevailing over Red”

Osama Killled: A Perspective !!

News came in the early morning on a news channel that Osama Bin Laden was found & killed at some place in Pakistan. I was shocked with the news, that how come a person like Osama can be killed.
So here is my analysis of the truth behind curtains: I used three spects to look at the proceedings.
1. Pakistan : A nation which terms itself as victim of terrorism, an ally of US, staunch supporter of counter terrorism operations in Afganistan and by virtue of it, it earns millions of dollars as free ball from US, a full range of battle ready equipments, explosives, technologies from the bosses sitting in white house.
But inadvertantly, against all claims illustrated earlier in the above para, Pakistan has earned the status of Safe Heaven for the millitants, terrorist, extemists from all over the world. Pakistan because of its strategic position which gives it neighbours like Iran in west, afganistan in north n arabian sea in the south-west makes itself as an impeccable need for United States which needs Pakistan land for its operations in Afganistan & for operations against Iran, if at all required in recent future.
But what makes Pakistan so vulnerable & prone to extemist dominence? Answer is easy & simple. Pakistan draws its power from the Millitary which plays games hand in hand with ISI. All games concentrate on one thing which is pro-muslim regime in the world. Its all war-plans are kept at the front with India on the charts. And, now with Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Afganistan under US scanner, Pakistan was only safe heaven for terrorists & extremists across asia.
Lets come back to Osama!
Osama Bin Laden is a personality which is not dispensable so easily therefore there can be many interpretations about the entire proceedings & its pros – cons as well.
a) Pakistan was unaware of entire operation. If this is true, then it is not impossible assumption that US will declare a sea change in its foreign policy with respect to Pakistan. If this is true, then US & its allies must be in process to declare something nasty against pakistan in coming days.
But if it is not true, that is, if Pakistan authorities were taken in confidence at all, then it simply means that some barter has been done. Or Al-queda is ready to be given some leeway in order to regroup & Pakistan is going to get some leaps in terms of financial assistance or millitary revamp.
If Pakistan allowed US to go ahead with Osama then it simply means that there was no option left for Pak government & in bargain they must have been failed heavily.
Still truth is behind the curtains!!!

b) United States: 10 years of persuit, 10 long years of hope against the devil which cost US a dent in their security claims, which rampaged the US claims of being the safest place to live on the planet. Finally they brought Osama to justice. But what it means for US to get Osama killed?
If you see recent past, President Obama is incessently failing at domestic, international fronts to keep going against fight for terrorism because everywhere they failed, be it Iraq, be it Afganistan or now recent example of Gaddafi regime in Libya. Questions were coming from all corners of the world about the efficacy of the US operations, huge claims and this is the moment when all critics are shut for a while, all the waste of tax payers money lost in last 10 years is justified in a sense.
This success may work as a breather for Obama government.
But it may raise a rage against the US & its allies across the globe which is a new threat & a discussion point now. Osama dead is dengerous than Osama alive.
c) India : Sadly indian government is not in position to comment or act swiftly after all happenings in last 2 days, why? Because all top brains are working hard in West Bengal elections, corruption cases, PAC report, 2G spectrum scam, Anna Hazare & allies. So nobody has literally any time to respond & act in the nations interest.
Moreover they don’t even have time to look for missing chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh.
***************************************************
As the news have arrived that Mr. Dorjee Khandu is dead in the chopper crash, the media is paying a formal coverage to the one of most unprecedented & unexpected departure of a popular chief minister who is unlike other CMs across India was a true representative of his people without any caste, creed, religious biases.

Hope Indian media stops covering only the meaty bones for TRP but try to represent what is happening in the society at large.
I am signing out with prayers for slain CM of Arunachal Pradesh.....RIP !!!!

Party Abhi Baki Hai - RIO ishstyle

One of the most memorable takeaways from Pune would be a drink called RIO. Born in 2007 out of an entrepreneur  venture ‘Silver Ice Beverages’, RIO is all set to hit the cola and juice market of India. Hitting a health conscious and cola hungry market wasn’t that easy. RIO comes in three different fruity flavours with a dash of fizz, and the company has gone an extra mile by adding a healthy dose of Honey and Vitamin C. IMPRESSIVE! What makes RIO stand out in the crowded space of drinks is not only does it offer unique flavours and healthy carbonated drink, but it also comes in exceptionally good package. And mind it, when I say unique flavours, they are some that you haven’t have heard off – Karma (Blue berry and Peach), Nirvana (Green Mango) and Moksha (Wild Berries i.e. strawberry and Raspberry).

As a relatively new entrant in the beverage market, RIO has so far adopted marketing and promotional strategies that are convenient, safe and inexpensive. RIO uses the following for the purpose of sale as well as promotion:
  • General Stores (convenient stores): Plan for stores; Profit ratio + RIO branding material + schemes for higher sales + schemes for exclusivity. Now that’s a lot of POS promotion.
  • Night Clubs & Lounges: RIO goes hand in hand with night clubs. Being the perfect mix for alcoholic drinks and a good stand alone non alcoholic beverage. They have developed Rio based cocktails recipes as well.
  • Restaurants: RIO has tie ups with restaurants around Pune which offer RIO to its customers.
  • Event Management Companies: RIO has shared stage with the finest events in and around Pune city.

It is not an easy road ahead competing with brands like Coca Cola and PepsiCo in the soft drink market, with RedBull in the mixers segment and with fruit based drinks like Appy, Fruity, Slice etc. Traditionally the soft drink market has concentrated on mass media advertising, Out Of Home (OOH) media, point of sale merchandise and on ground activities. Online media is an evolving marketing space and one can experience significant advantages in enhancing customer connect. As RIO’s target audience is the young India, the internet can indeed be an important medium.

Search marketing: to my utter dismay, at present a Google search for the word ‘RIO’ does not bring up results relevant to the beverage nor does it shows a link to the brands existing website.

Website management: the existing website gives basic information about the product and an overview of the company. RIO can definitely do better than just that. Offers, purchasing online, contest, design for bottles or anything to keep the viewer engaged.

Web marketing: Nothing, absolutely nothing on social networks, micro blogs or blogs.. Absolute lack of communication! Can RIO be used in online gaming like Dinner dash?

However all in not that bad! The news is that RIO is coming up with two more flavours, tie up with Hi5 (online social networking website which intends to re-brand themselves in India by conducting camps in PVR malls across India. Hmm.. Eagerly waiting to see RIO in every town.

Scent of a Woman || Perfume by Priyanka

“Sugar, Spice & Everything Nice…” such goes the list of ingredients for a lovely girl. Ask anyone, even the hobo living in a cardboard box, everyone agrees: A Girl Always Smells Nice.
Nice? You mean like peaches & bergamot or lavender & honey?? I’m a girl and I demand an answer?!!
My favorite scent remains to be that of musty old books in the attic. Or of rain, just before it rains. Or of winter… when your breathe freezes fogging up your view of the sunset. Or like cheese oozing from a double burst pizza! Or like babies who have been squeaked clean and dressed up in pinks & blue, just perfect for a day in the park!!
But you never get these in a bottle in any store! Hmmm…
You know what all of it reminds me of? Home. My Mom.
Each time I return home for a few days, I pause for a moment before I enter. I fill up my lungs with the air outside, with all its smells… dust, grime, exhaust, litter… and then step in.
When I take in my next breath, it’s like being reborn…
They tell you about how when you hear a song that you once loved in the past and have it instantly bring you back to that moment in time? I think whenever I smell anything nice, I go back in time to this moment:
Entering my home again… right into the arms of my mom!
When you look around and notice how nothing has changed, everything looks the same, feels the same, even smells the same; you realize what’s changed, is you.
~The books, aging gracefully, even with the silverfish scurrying across… right as I’d left them in the box last year. The colorful pages which mom read out when I knew no difference between a and z
~The drops on my forehead as I run to cover, leaving mom drenching in the rain; struggling to save the achaar instead of herself
~The steaming cup of tea not helping keep my fingers warm enough, I snuggle next to mom as she keeps down her cup and hugs me
~The doorbell rings and it way before it’s been 30 mins, mom beats me to the door. The wide grin on her face as she opens the pizza make me wonder, “Who’s the kid here?” No one, or both of us?
~The Johnson’s Baby Soap mom still keep in my bathroom... willfully forgetting her daughter is older than she was when she bought the first bar for her first-born
That’s it according to me…. The ingredients of the perfect perfume for any woman:
Niceness inside-out.
Sweat, blood, tears, sleepless nights and aching muscles, slain dragons and dying dreams, birds leaving the nest or just stopping by for a moment… it all has to go in, without an ounce of dishonesty.
Love you mom!

Life in Slow Motion ||Gone in 60 seconds by Priyanka

WARNING: Extremely long story, capable of testing your knowledge of Pop-culture, patience and sanity on multiple levels. Not recommended for novices.

Sango came into being just as everyone else around her; nothing new in being thrown onto Mother Earth on account of the parent over-eating beyond herself!

As she was growing up, Sango’s mom started slowly drifting away, and then the inevitable moment came when as Sango looked around for that familiar comfort of her mother, there was just the sea of nudges and shoves. The neighbors, instead of bad-mouthing her mom for maternal negligence, instead pooh-poohed her as a sissy. No-one in their knowledge had latched on to her mother for as long as she did!

“What a disgrace of a progeny!” “Good for the poor mother, she practically had to run away. These kids I tell you…”

There was no way out: She had to go about her life in search of safety, livelihood and more. She was now capable enough to fend for herself; she had done well to learn how to hunt for food, which region to slurp water from, which places to rest for the night, how to mix herself into the crowd and how to avoid the stout fellows everyone called Grinches.
“They would hurt you if you go too close, or if they’re in a bad mood,” her mom had once told her.

But Sango still missed having her mom. She was the one with the answers to the endless stream of questions swirling within her, waiting to burst out, as if. No one wanted to stop and talk in this world… it was such a task!

“How does night replace daylight and then daylight replace night without fail? Where does the food go once she eats it? How does it feel to love someone? What lies beyond the Forbidden Sea? Why is she where she is? Where is she? What will happen next?”

Thinking of all the questions without getting a single answer made her wish she never was. Her life seemed totally pointless… eating, drinking, walking and sleeping. How could she have been created without a purpose?

“When will this end?!!”

She was walking along in another one of her seemingly pointless journeys, towards the food-rich plains when she suddenly bumped into someone. “Sorry, I didn’t notice you”, she said to the fellow she’d knocked down. The guy looked at her smiling wistfully, said “Oh no, it was me. I am just so over this pointless life... I just want it to end being so boring.”
Sango grabbed the stranger tightly, “ME TOO! I’ve been thinking the exact same thing!!” He managed to mumble a few words, by now almost squeezed to choking, before Sango took the hint and introduced herself.

“Hi Sango, I’m Three. I’m on the way to the end of the world, care to join me?” What more could she ask for, except another question: “Oh, hi Three! How do you know you are on the right path?”

“I have drawn myself a map standing at the top of the Blue Mountains. Have you ever been there?”
“No. How long will the journey take?”
“I have no idea. But I would rather spend my life reaching there than sleeping through. Won’t you too?”
“Where is your mother?”
“She left, like all moms. Didn’t yours leave!?”

And thus cross-questioning each other, they started walking off from the crowded city-streets together. Sango had found a friend. Three didn’t just answer her questions, but he asked her even greater ones!

Her life finally had a purpose.

Endless days they walked and walked as per the map Three had. They discussed their lives, their dreams and their questions.
“You know how does the light suddenly go out and night falls? It happens in a definite pattern. After every 3 cycles of day-night there are 2 nights. Ever noticed? ” “No Three! Never!!! How did you?” “I know something is going on, Sango. I just need to reach the Forbidden Sea to get a clear view of what’s beyond.”

Someone overhearing would have branded them heretics, but they had out-casted themselves from society before anyone else could.

“Three..” “Ya?” “You’re so amazing! I never thought I’ll find someone to love, ever”, Sango said one day. “Have you gone mad! You know love is nothing, it’s a lie!! We’re both independent, self-sufficient beings… we’re together just because our goals are the same!” That was the only time Three had shouted at her. Sango never broached the topic again.

Her mom had told her about Love... it was rare, but it wasn’t a lie.

They covered harsh ground covered thinly with grass, hurting their feet even as they walked. They barely had enough water to keep their throats from drying out, forget water. And then they came across an entire colony of Gremlins! Three held Sango very, very close to himself... even their breaths were synchronized, Sango could barely look towards him.

She found herself thinking of Love once again.

As they crossed the colony safely, Sango saw an expanse of deep blue water. She ran towards it and suddenly found herself falling freely down towards it; dragging Three along! Those few moments till they crashed into the waters of the Forbidden Seas seemed so long… their entire life flashed before them… And just as they were about to hit the water, it happened:

Three turned to her & they kissed!

When they emerged from the water, Sango looked ecstatic. They decided to stay by the Sea itself as it was night again. Food was no problem and there were no Gremlins in sight. Three smiled at Sango as they slept off dreamily looking at each other.

With daylight came the discovery. There was nothing beyond Forbidden Sea.

Only a few paces from where Sango & Three had rested was The End. A solid which seemed stretching into nothingness. Three started climbing it up when he realized it was like a cover over their heads… it allowed the light to pass through but was just, endless.

“So this is it I guess,” Sango said.
“Yes, we’ve reached the end of the world. I bet we’re the only ones!” Three almost yelled as he jumped up & down.. Sango said, “But what next?”
“Nothing, this is a great place, food, water, safety. We stay here.. and love each other. Not that we are going to die, ever,” Three stated what Sango was waiting to hear forever.

Thus ends the story of the two inquisitive, love-lorn, Single-celled organisms being studied in the Microbiology lab at some University. They probably held the key to some drug-discovery which would save millions of lives, or earn the big-wigs billions of dollars. But such was the 60-sec peek into their lives… maybe they will go on to reproduce the un-conventional way… love makes the impossible happen each day!

And yes, they do live on forever, unless the student in-charge of the petri dish accidently heats it to a 121.

Strawberry Fields Forever || Ion

Little red bubbles of love, you call them.
Trembling voices and figuring woes, gather momentum
As we walk across the misty trails, like two souls lost
In abandoned passion, and the valley’s grass gently crushed underneath.

When you speak, the words fill up my mind.
Staying awhile, I know, I might find one more dream in your eyes.
As your fingers run through my hair a voice escapes me....
You're here today, it says.

Blinded, I am, but I feel your piercing gaze
Run down my face, an inch at a time,
Its placid charity echoing your warm touch.
Only, today you are here, and it is beautiful.

Not sure if you figure what you see in these eyes,
I can see your lips curl up into a smile, as you let me
Walk you through these strawberry fields.
Just a promise lingers – forever
